How to have an awesome birthday party
How I did it:
First of all, I didn't let myself feel too down due to the fact that most of my friends live in another state right now. And I tried not to dwell on my death in the family, because I know that the person I lost would want me to have a happy birthday. And I also didn't let the fact that my in-laws were visiting derail my plans either. And they were respectful and didn't try to get all preachy about my alcohol intake or swearing so that was good. They even brought me a present!!
My husband invited his friends over who invited their lady friends/wives/etc and a lot of them I already knew pretty well. They party was pretty girly but the guys didn't care. Me and my husband made LOADS of food and cocktails so there was plenty to go around. The girls had way more fun then the boys, but they got free food and drinks and hung out so it was okay. Nearly everyone brought a present even though they knew they didn't have to. It was really nice. We had fun music, my husband decorated the apartment with balloons and streamers. Everyone admired the pictures on the walls. Somehow we all ended up wearing festive handbands like bunny ears and tiaras and stuff. Even the guys. We just had a lot of fun. Everyone kept making me take birthday shots. It was so great.
Lessons & tips:
- Even if the food isn't so great or its cold or something small goes wrong, its okay. Don't sweat the small stuff. Most people don't care about that crap anyway.
- Make sure there's lots of food and alcohol.
- Don't expect gifts.
- Tell everyone 'thank you'.
- Take LOTS of pictures!!!
- Make jello shots.
