How to stop biting my nails by OctopusGirl

"It's hard to imagine all those years I didn't have pretty nails :P"

How I did it: One day I decided I wanted to grow my nails so I could have lovely, pretty, decorated nails just like my mum. I was massively inspired by decora and nail art. I literally just decided to stop biting them and in a few weeks I'd stopped for good.

It was all about will power for me! I'd tried Stop 'n' Grow and it really didn't help. It was all about picturing the nails I wanted.

Lessons & tips: Paint your nails! Nail biting is a habit you don't even notice you're doing, so when you catch yourself nibbling on perfectly painted nails in will encourage you to stop. If you're a guy, skip this step and opt for a male manicure instead ;)

Keep your hands busy. It's an impulse to stick them in your mouth when they're idle, so fiddle with a Rubik's cube, take up knitting, doodle on the back of notebooks; whatever it takes to keep them away from your teeth!

Pay attention to your nail health. Your nails will grow crooked and flaky at first, this is due to the years you've spent abusing them. Don't give up, simply keep them trimmed and filed until they grow healthier. Make sure you eat a healthy diet, or take supplements and regularly treat yourself to nail soaks in warm oil, invest in a range of nail care products and overall put hours of care into maintaining healthy nails.

Resources: The compliments I got from my friends and family were the biggest help I got. It encouraged me to keep growing them as long as I could.

It really was a case of shedding a life-long habit, but bleeding fingers are nothing to aspire to :P I can definitely appreciate how tough it is though. I’m so flattered by your comment <3

than yourself. It must have taken a lot of willpower and courage to finally do it. The first thing a person sees when they greet a beautiful woman is their gorgeous hands and a great big smile.

I am so happy that you are flattered by my compliment. A little trick I discovered to keep them looking well manicured you may want to try is this. Purchase a large quantity of small nail files and small bottles of hand lotion at a dollar store.

Place a nail file in every handbag, clutch purse, hobo bag, every room in your home you frequent, in your car, at work, everywhere you frequent the most.

When the urge to bite comes back (hopefully never again) but if you discover a snag or rough edge on your nail, you can quickly file them smooth again, and use the hand lotion.
