How to win a goldfish from a fair, and have it live at least 3 months
How I did it: My goal was slightly different than how this is listed: My specific goal was to have someone else win me a goldfish at a carnival, not win it myself. Makes it more special =) My friend Megan and I decided to go to this annual carnival, the Morton Pumpkin Festival, which is held in early September. We knew that they had the game with the ping pong balls and goldfish, and it reminded me of my goldfish goal on my "to do before I die" list. Since she's a very good friend and she is a champion beer pong player, I asked her if she would win me a goldfish at the carnival, and she got really excited about it too.
We used less than 5 dollars total, I believe. She actually won 2 goldfish that evening, so she kept one and I kept one. They were really pretty; mine has black fins, and hers had black patches on it's body. We named them Patsy (mine) and Edina (hers) after our favorite characters on the show Absolutely Fabulous. I'm not sure if she still has hers since she put it in the family fish tank, but I still have Patsy and she's doing great and it's been about 6 months.
Lessons & tips: in my experience, the person trying to win the fish should have really good aim.
Remember to clean the fish bowl once it starts getting covered in algae. Don't clean it too often though, and NEVER use any detergents! Just rinse everything with water.
Resources: Having a good friend who is great at beer pong.
