How I did it: I trained for three months. I started out running three times week, two short runs and one long run. Every week or two, the long run would get a bit longer. It was a good stratetgy.
Lessons & tips: Use the "run 10 minutes, walk 1 minute" strategy. It helps, especially on race day when you don't think you can run another 45 minutes.
