How to sponsor a child through world vision
"Very fulfilling and long awaited."
How I did it:
Ever since I was young, I have wanted to sponsor a child through World Vision. Once I almost did, but I really didn't have enough money, but I wanted to so bad though. I always watched World Vision television events, I was drawn to them. I always told myself that one day, when I was financially stable, when I could afford it, I would sponsor a child. Now I sponsor 2 :D
Lessons & tips:
- I chose World Vision, but you can choose another organization that you feel more comfortable with, like Child Fund, Save the Children, SOS Children's Villages, Plan Canada, Canadian Feed the Children, Christian Children’s Fund, etc.
- Send them lots of letters. They loved getting news and little things from you. In every letter, I send a little gift: stickers, trace-the-number or letter drawings (depends how old they are), draws they can colour, cards, I sent a small plastic bracelet once, which said Amie ( which means Friend), school supplies that can fit in envelops: a ruler, erasers, crayons, pencils, a small pencil sharpener (be careful that they do not tear the envelop), photos, bookmarks, etc.
- In my letters, I like to add inspirational and hope quotes and sayings, such as: What lies
behind us, and what lies before us, is nothing compared to what lies within us. | You may
only be one person in the world, put to someone else, you are the world. | Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you'll find one
at the end of your arm ... As you grow older you will discover that you have
two hands: One for helping yourself, the other for helping others.
Can I send gifts to my sponsored child?
You are welcome to send simple gifts with your letters and
cards. Please send only flat items such as photos, bookmarks, stamps or
stickers in an envelope no bigger than “6x9”. (Please do not send
parcels or cash.) Your sponsored child’s photo frame provides full
details on how to communicate with your sponsored child. Also, sponsors
are able to send gifts to their sponsored child's community. This is
available through World Vision's Gift Catalogue. Click here to browse through the online Gift Catalogue.
