How to reconnect with my emotions
How I did it: I recognised the need to seek some help in dealing with stress and emotion. I got some advice from my GP. I researched and registered with a humanistic counsellor. This is a very passive form of counselling whereby you essentially are provided with a supportive and 'safe' space to work through your feelings and come to your own conclusions. I read The Power of Now which provided me with the presence to accompany my new understanding of my emotions.
Lessons & tips: - Don't rush or be impatient- it takes time- almost certainly lots longer than you expect
- Don't feel disheartened by bad days or times when you think you are in a rut- it's not a linear process
- Don't expect structure
- Research the different kinds of therapy and see what appeals to you as an individual
- If you are an anxious person, don't self-diagnose online!!
