How to go on a gondola ride
How I did it: The first time I went to Venice I was on holiday in Rabac, Croatia & I took a boat trip to Venice then joined up with a group walking tour and gondola ride, all of which was guided, organised and pre-paid at a very discounted rate.
It was excellent. No queues & no rip-offs and I got to see & experience all the 'must sees & do's' without hassle.
The second time I went to Venice, I was travelling independently and was amazed at how exorbitant the price of a gondola ride was, so I didn't do it. I just explored the City on foot and by Vaporetti (local water taxis) - a great way to see the authentic Venice.
Lessons & tips: 1. If you have time, suss out the cost of pre-booking a gondola ride with a few tour operators
2. Don't pay more than 80Euros maximum and at this cost, the ride should last at least 40 mins & include champagne or a glass of wine
