How to have an acceptable Valentine's Day
How I did it: It was very sweet. I got her flowers the day before (I didn't have a vase and I didn't want them to wilt.) I made her pumpkin waffles, we spent the first half of the day baking cupcakes for a party, (which we didn't end up going to, but it didn't matter). We went out to dinner with her mom at our usual Sunday-night hang-out (We've only been dating for less than two months, and already we're pretty habit-bound people) and than decided to call it an early night, went home and snuggled up in front of a movie, "The Man Who Fell to Earth".
Lessons & tips: Honestly, I had to downplay my own fears for this one. It's such a loaded holiday, in terms of expectation, that just taking it easy and having fun, and being flexible with the planning and such is what made it work. It's just another day, after all.
Being flexible and low-key seems to have been the best strategy. The more work I put into it, the more stressed I was about it, so I just leaned back and figured it would be okay.
