How to run a marathon
"One of the hardest and most incredible things I've ever done."
How I did it: I trained for 4 months using the Hal Hidgon Novice 1 marathon schedule. I stuck with the schedule and ran in the pouring rain, blazing heat and dark sometimes... didn't let weather or being tired discourage me. The only runs I missed was when I was very sick.
I ran almost exclusively by myself and used a training belt which held gatorade for my long runs, and fueled up with GU and shot bloks. This was crucial for the runs over 9-10 miles. I loaded up my shuffle with good music and just enjoyed it. On the long runs, I would take walk breaks every 2 miles for 1-2 minutes to refuel - this also gave me something to look forward to during those long mornings on my feet!
