How to get my GED
How I did it: At 16, in my sophomore year, I decided that i was wasting time in high school having to retake classes due to excessive tardies and absences due mostly to fatigue, stemming from anxiety/depression, that had been going on for a few years. The school wasn't helping out much, so when i was finally eligible at 16 i signed out of school. My plans were to get my G.E.D. and go on to a nearby community college as soon as i could. The G.E.D. tests were very easy to me, I'd say 8th-9th grade level, which surprised me since it's supposedly the equivalent of a 12th grade level highschool diploma. From that i figured that i was wasting my time in highschool learning things i didn't need to know, and i'm glad i did it. Now i have new plans to attend cosmetology school, which lasts about 10 months. When that's over i can start working in that field part-time and then begin part-time community college, all by the time i'm turning 18, when everyone else is just finishing their senior year in highschool.
Lessons & tips: I don't recommend dropping out so early unless you have realistic, self-benefiting plans for afterward. Otherwise, you might as well have just stayed in school.
The test is pretty basic, at times almost common sense. You shouldn't waste time taking G.E.D. prep classes unless you haven't been in school for many years.
Also, when going to register, make sure you have time, or bring someone to help fill out your forms. Lots of bubbles!

What to do??
heyyy; reading this has just made me start thinking if the GED route is best for me. i’m in high school and like you i get plenty of tardies and absences due to depression or lack of desire to being in the school. my plan was to get my GED, apply to a Community College and transfer to a four year to continue my education. I’m a writer and i would love to make my passion my career someday, but being in High School doesn’t seem to be doing anything positive for me.. write back and tell me what you think please…
& btw, CONGRATS!
need some help? ^__^
I was looking around the internet when i stumbled upon this. So i read your post. I have a problem like this one. You see i began my senior year in september 08 and in december i got a bad news. I was moving to another location. I tryed giving this new school a chance but i just couldnt do it. So i have decided to drop out. I plan on getting my GED and well see if i go to a tech school or join the military. Im 18 and well i just wanted to ask for some advice. Is the GED really not hard?....Is it worth it?.....I really was tired of wasting time in school when i could be out there looking for a job making money to support my grandma and such but, right now i just dont know what to do…..im frozen in time…..and i was thinking maybe you can give me some advice.
