How to donate books to the public library
How I did it: I heard that my hometown’s public library needed more books, and I decided to help.
This place is a block away from my parents’ house; I was part of its summer clubs, events and used to be the building where all my fantasies started on. Sherlock Holmes called my name in a corridor when I was 11, and he became my first platonic love. Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz whispered in my ear her poems, my feminist alter ego was born that day.
I spoke with all my friend and colleagues in the city; some said no, other said they didn’t have any books to give away, but others were happy to help. By the end of the month I had dozens of books, packed everything in my car and drove to my hometown. The library was pleased, and I was the happiest girl on town that day.
Lessons & tips: Sharing with others will eventually bring more that what was originally given away.
Resources: Friends and colleagues.
