How to go to a full moon party in Thailand
How I did it: It was a good time but I wish I had gone before it got so commercialized. We took a plane from Bangkok to Koh Samui and then caught a boat to Koh Pha-Ngan. It wasn't too difficult.
The Full Moon Party is an all-night beach party that takes place in Haad Rin on the island of Ko Pha-Ngan during the night of every full moon.
Apparently it use to be a lot more Bohemian but has gained in popularity too quickly through word of mouth, and the event now draws a crowd of about 20,000 plus. We partied until the sun rose dancing to various drum and bass DJs. The crowd is now made up mostly of American and Aussie tourists and random ravers. Nothing wrong with that, just wish I could've seen it when it was more about connecting and less about partying.
Lessons & tips: Be ready for madness... and drinking Red Bull syrup and bourbon out of a metal bucket.
