Impressive
It is amazing you smoked for 40 years, congrats for quitting.
How I did it: I started on Chantix on August 8 (8-8-08) and by day 7 I had completely stopped a 40 year habit and haven't smoked since.
Chantix blocks the receptors in your brain that make you crave the cigarettes so with the craving gone, that's most of the problem you have when trying to quit smoking. Cut back slowly as possible to take care of any physical withdrawals you may have.
Chantix made it easy because I was ready. My first grandchild had recently joined the family and he was the last straw. How could I continue to harm myself when I had just heard of a new medicine that was helping many people? I hope I don't sound like a paid announcer for Chantix but it worked for me.
Lessons & tips: There are scarey stories out there about this drug, Chantix. Some people have had terrible nightmares on it. Don't let this deter you.
You will start out on a very low dose and remember, if you should happen to have any unpleasant side effects, stop taking the drug. I didn't have any problems at all with it. I may as well have been taking a vitamin. There is a support group online with Chantix. It's a big help to chat with others in the same spot that you are in.
