How to run in a half-marathon
"I started running in January 2009, and it took about a year to get to the point where I was physically capable of running the half-marathon distance."
How I did it: I started by training to run short distances (1-3 km) and over time I was able to build up my running time, and distance to do 5 km. After doing a few 5 km running races, I decided to do 10 km races, and then made the decision to try for a half-marathon.
To get ready for the half-marathon, I walked the distance to make sure that I was capable of moving my body that distance. About a month after attempting to walk it, I ran it on the treadmill. The experience of walking it, and running it gave me confidence when it came time to actually run it on race day.
Lessons & tips: Make sure that you have enough water; carry a water bottle, and fill it at the water stations.
Get plenty of sleep the night before the race.
