How to have a homebirth
How I did it: when i found out i was pregnant, i didn't really know where to start. my husband and i didn't have health insurance, and i didn't even know of any midwives in the area. we waited three months to finally interview a midwife. i called a midwife in my area named alisa voss and asked her if she would be available to be my midwife. we interviewed her and from then on, she was with us during the amazing journey of having our first child.
Lessons & tips: research birth. read books, watch films, ask questions, attend birthing classes. understand your body and the birthing process. know that birth is a natural, beautiful thing - not something that requires you to be pushed in a wheelchair and hooked up to a bunch of IVs. i would highly recommend taking a birthing class that is 100% all-for natural, drug-free birth. something like birthing from within, or the bradley method.
Resources: the book ina may's guide to childbirth. the film, the business of being born. the birthing class, birthing from within.
