How I did it: Open a 401k, 403b, Roth, and put a little each week, each week, each week, ask for advice, read books, stocks, different types of mutual funds trust that the people of the world want to succeed.  500 Largest US companies working for you (500 S&P Index), Europe, Pacific, Emerging economies, REIT's , Bonds, boo yah.  Stop wishing, start saving in funds.  Yes, it went up and down.  I kept buying, and saving....

You pay a little money, put in your funds or ideas and pick a risk level and it will tell you what funds to invest.  I found my biggest fund using that (CWGIX).  I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL.  Get a help if you like from a CFP or CFM.  Certified Financial Planner/Manager.  Money magizine, Automatic Millionaire, Millionaire Next Door, Bogleheads, Index Fund Solution...sit on your hands in bad markets and enjoy life, up markets check that computer.  It takes time if can invest in a pension fund MAX that as well.
