OMG!!!
I am thrilled! I hope you are loving the new place!
We are in the process of a move, too. I could relate to your comment about the “large and detailed bookmarking system”, which I also had – and at the beginning of the process even had an Excel spreadsheet going to compare different houses.
The place I fell in love with went to someone who didn’t have to worry about selling an existing home first. But the condo we’re closing on a week from today was cheap enough that we could scrape together a down payment and move almost 2 weeks before closing on the sale of our current home. Which, if you saw all the crap stuff we’ve accumulated over the past 32 years, you’d know is absolutely necessary.
Congrats on the purchase!!! Now all you need is your own feral cat to make it feel like home. :)

Great Minds...
Well congratulations to you too!!! That two weeks sounds like it will be crucial. Timing is everything when you’re part of a chain. A condo… sounds cool. Is that like a skyscraper? A friend of mine’s parents have one in Chicago that looks out over Lake Michigan and we went up on the roof one day and watched Chicago buzzing around below us. It was winter though so we couldn’t stay out too long.
I haven’t moved in yet and I’ve been told that won’t happen for six to eight weeks. There is still room for something to go wrong but the survey was sound and it’s been officially noted as “Sale Agreed”. Just want to get it signed and sealed.
I won’t post a pic till I’ve moved in. I’m not superstitious but I don’t want to tempt fate… guess that means I am superstitious.
Definitely going to get a cat!
Our condo
is not that sort – it’s a little 2-story refuge in the woods at the top of the hill, and is less than a mile from my beloved Mississippi bike path. But it’s also half the size of our current home, so the move is a lot of work, as was chasing down financing to fit our situation. I know it will be worth it, though.
Wow, 6 – 8 weeks is a long time, is that the norm in Ireland? Btw, I think it’s so funny you’ve reappeared on St. Patrick’s Day. :) Though my main celebration was girls day out at the local parade and pub last Saturday, I am making the requisite corned beef and cabbage tonight – which many of us yanks do to celebrate. And I am wearing green, of course. :)

Paddy's Day Reprise
A refuge in the woods… that sounds like heaven. I’m doing the smaller thing too, I’ll be dumping so much stuff in the move and I’m not good at that. I get emotionally attached to the most bizarre and useless things. And a ‘Mississippi bike path’, it really sounds idyllic. When I think of some of the tiny, grubby, urban pits that I’ve been in it sounds almost like “Little House on the Prairie’. Remember that amazing wooden house they all lived in – hand built by Charles!!
I really don’t know if 6-8 weeks is normal but I guess it is. There’s nothing about this that should make it any longer than usual.
Glad to hear you’re wearing green. I actually don’t like Paddy’s Day much. There is unbelievable drunkeness by mid afternoon and the streets get really aggressive as night falls. Better to be in a smaller town. But you’re right, it’s a curious coincidence to be back on the occasion of our nations great booze up! I could even imagine that the parade is in honour of my new home.
It's so funny
you mentioned Little House on the Prairie – when my middle daughter was about 9, there was a retired teacher who gave Little House classes on Saturdays, and she loved them. It was kind of a book club, with added instruction on how things were in pioneer days, and old-timey crafts like candle-dipping thrown in for good measure.
I can relate to the emotional attachment issue, which has slowed down my decluttering considerably. It’s taken me literally decades to get to the point where I can now part with the red wood Radio Flyer wagon we used to haul our little ones around in. Good luck with your sorting and pitching!
