How to walk more
"exhausting but rewarding"
How I did it: I decided at the start of University not to buy a bus pass to make myself walk more. the University in Canterbury is uphill about 30 minutes from town. This worked fine at first, but when winter came I got the bus more and more often. Now the spring is finally springing and I've been walking anywhere. It helps to have super skint or cheap friends who will never pay for the bus, as it means they'll encourage you to just man up and walk!
Now I walk all the time, going into town and back almost every day, sometimes two or three times a day. It still tires me, but far less than it used to.
Lessons & tips:
- Go places with friends who refuse to get the bus.
- Don't take cash with you places, just a debit card, so you can't take a bus or get a taxi even if you want to.
- Get an iPod and listen to it when you walk, or walk with friends.
