How I did it: Took me a year of saving and I went with my school.
GET tours got everything sorted for us. I stayed in traditional Ryokans and in a home stay. The home stay was probably the best thing about it. Everyone is so nice and they all just want to help. Remeber not to be shy, these people will probably never see you again so you have nothing to lose.
Lessons & tips: "wakarimasen" means I don't understand
"sugoi" means this is great
