How to have an article accepted for publication in an academic journal.
"It was a lot of work but it fit in to my professional interests, so it was worth it."
How I did it: First was getting the grant funded, then the data collection, data entry and analysis. All of that took two years, although most of that was getting the funding, finding people to collect data in the region and getting the data. It probably took a total of 160 hours of writing and revising, spread over a year from submission to getting the first reviews to revision to acceptance.
Lessons & tips: Make sure that it is something that interests you because no matter how fascinated you are at the beginning you will get sick of revising, researching and the endless small details.
