How to pray through the Psalms monthly
How I did it: I used a computer program to generate a month reading schedule that took chapter length into consideration. Each day for the month I slowly read through the day's reading aloud as a prayer to God while taking in the beauty of the Hebrew poetry in the process.
Lessons & tips: Praying throught the Psalms in a month is a rich spiritual experience which I strongly recommend to anybody that has a love for them. Just keep in mind that there are other parts of the Bible outside of the Psalms which is why this is something that I think is best to take in seasons as it is very hard to keep it up long term without neglecting the rest of the Bible in my experience.

Hebrew poetry
I assume you were reading them in translation…? Which translation?
Hebrew
Actually as a seminary graduate I know enough Hebrew to be able to work my way through Hebrew poetry slowly with a lexicon in hand. But you are right that I do primarily read Hebrew poetry in translation. I use the English Standard Version (ESV) as my primary translation which is fairly literally. Although for Hebrew poetry at times I enjoy reading the Concordant Literal Version (CLV) which is a very literal translation which one has to almost know at least some Hebrew to really enjoy as it brings through the earthy nature of Hebrew in a way that seems a bit awkward to people that do not know any Hebrew. Another thing that I like is how it how it “translates” the names of God as they are in the Hebrew for example it uses “Yahweh” instead of “the LORD” which I enjoy as it feels closer to the Hebrew to me that way.

Poetry
It sounds like your Hebrew is better than mine. Even with my bumbling amount, it is clear when you read them in Hebrew, even if you don’t understand all the words, how the Psalm really are poetry.
I also think that translating YHVH as “the LORD” is no good. There’s a reason why this word is ineffable.
I recommend the JPS translation, too, as an alternate to consider.
