How to get a job that I enjoy, am proud of, and is fun
"I worked a variety of jobs that I liked but didn't actively enjoy, or was proud of. I feel working for the library is both fun, enjoyable, and something I can be proud of."
How I did it:
I applied for jobs at my local library off and on for about two years before I was hired as a substitute employee. I could have volunteered but didn't have the free time.I started working at the library as a
substitute, so I could learn the ropes for the bottom level position I kept applying for. I
eventually plan to have a Master’s in Library Science, and knew that
getting experience in my chosen field would help when it came time to
getting the real job, once I am done with school. (Ten thousand years
from now!!) After two months, I was hired as a part-time Circulation
Clerk. I love my job! I am surrounded by books, media, music, and
people who love all those things. The people coming in to get the books
and movies are generally happy, and I love helping people find what
they are looking for. This is one of the “grunt job” positions, bottom
level, but I adore it, and am eager to work my way up. I have been here for just over a year and look forward to going to work every single day. Instead of feeling dread when I know I am working the next day, I am excited and enthusiastic. It also makes me a more productive worker, and puts me in a better mood overall!

Lessons & tips: Be persistent!!!! Do not give up--and be willing to start small to get to where you want to go.
Resources: Networking, using the library, continually applying, resume writing sites, and good people skills
