How to take the Myer-Briggs personality test and discover your personality type.
How I did it: The tests gave me varying results, but reading Carl Jung's Psychological Types, Lenore Thomson's Personality Type: An Owner's Manual, and of course, Gifts Differing by Isabel Myers (creator of MBTI), and various online sources helped me understand the theory and the cognitive functions behind the 4 letter dichotomies. Coupled with some honest self-evaluation, it is clear I am an INFP and not INTP or INFJ.
This was totally worth it, as I have communicated with other INFPs in online communities and it has helped me explore myself and accept myself, in addition to understanding other types of people. Plus, theory in general fascinates me, so this has become an entertaining past-time as well.
Lessons & tips: Read the books - the online tests only go so far, and the 4 letters only scratch the surface of the theory. Don't get stuck on stereotypes - really focus on your mental thought processes.
