How to plant a flower garden
How I did it: I ordered bedding plants from the Big Brother Big Sisters Plant Sale. I wasn't sure how many I would need and over-ordered a bit. But that's okay. They were kind of enough to deliver to them to our house on Tuesday. Since the plants don't do well in their little containers for long, the race was on to get them in the ground. After work today, I stopped at the store for some garden soil to mix with the top soil. When I got home, I changed clothes and got dirty! After about two hours of hard work, I've got a flower garden planted with three kinds of plants and two rhododendron bushes. It's supposed to rain tonight, so hopefully they'll get a good soaking.
Lessons & tips: Make sure to get your bedding plants from a reputable place. Not Walmart. They'll do better and last longer. I'd also recommend mixing your top soil with Miracle Gro gardening soil. Or use a good fertilizer unless you're sure you've got good quality top soil.
Resources: I did a bit of research to find the best kind of plants for the area our flower bed is located. It's a place that gets sun part of the day, but is also shaded part of the day. So I knew that I needed to find plants that would work in that type of light.
