How to participate in Earth Hour 2010
"A fun, electricity-free way to spend an hour"
How I did it: My roommate and I turned out the lights, shut off and unplugged electronics around the apartment, then lit a bunch of candles.
For the hour, we drew, played guitar and ocarina, wrote poems and worked on stories, plus played with our puppy. It was a lot of fun, especially since we engaged in creative activities.
We didn't only spend an hour by candlelight, instead not paying much attention to the clock, and ended up having about an hour and a half before we turned the lights and electronics back on.
Lessons & tips:
- Find something creative to do.
- Have a friend do this with you!
- Light lots of candles.
- Try not to watch the clock the whole time, it will be more fun if you don't.
