How to get an internship abroad
"I'm going to INDIA!"
How I did it: Researched industrial design internships in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK -- the places I most wanted to go (or so I thought). Also made a "backup" list of places in California, in case going abroad wouldn't work.
Turns out, one of the companies I contacted in California was actually stationed in India, and they were very excited about me joining them. ...and I still hadn't heard anything from my "first choices."
Spent a month and a half figuring out details. Got my official offer letter last week! And I got my air tickets and sent out my visa application yesterday. I start on June 1st!
...Everything happens for a reason?
Lessons & tips:
- Have an open mind. I'm not going abroad to where I expected, but I think the experience will be even more amazing that what I'd hoped for.
- Don't give up!
Resources:
- An amazing fellowship director
- Google -- do lots of searches!
