How to plant an herb garden
How I did it: I've been planning this for a while but wanted less rain and cold before I'd have to dig out there. Previously I prepper the yard, putting dirt in all the planters, sweeping the porch etc. Yesterday I went to a nursery with my sister and we picked out organic herb starters as well as seeds. We came right home and planted them. It's still a bit chilly at night so we've covered the seeds.
There is just something about working in dirt, or growing your own food, that is amazing.
Lessons & tips: Buy local. There are plenty of nurseries around, you don't need to get your plants from Wal-Mart!
Read up on how to tend your seeds, on the seed packet or in a book. Just throwing them on the ground isn't as productive as you'd think.
Get started. I made excuses for a while. If you're in an apartment, get a planter box. If you have a house, no excuse!
Resources: I've been gardening for years, I know the basics. But it's never to late to learn. Here's a cute book I recomend for good ideas and common sense (how to build planters, how to grow, watering ideas, checking your soil before planting..):
