How to find a job
How I did it: I had been looking for a job for years, even with the help of the Department of Occupational Rehabilitation Services (DORS). In that time I got a few interviews every now and then, but only one job. It was a seasonal position at Target, and didn't last past January. After that it was back to job hunting again. Eventually I lost faith in DORS and left the program. For a while I did my own thing, keeping an eye out for open positions. It was my boyfriend's sister, who is Post Master at a local post office that helped me and guided me into finding my new job as a Post Master Relief. She would tell me about open positions at local post offices, I went online and applied using her a reference, and soon enough I was hired. I also discovered that my mother, who does the mail at the place she works knew the Post Master at one of the places I applied. Soon enough I was called into an interview, where they told me I had the job!
Lessons & tips: I think your biggest resource is going to be the people you know. Let your family and friends know you are looking for a job and ask them to let you know if something becomes available where they work. Knowing someone already working there who can recommend you can give you a real advantage. I had so much more luck doing it this way than I did just filling out countless random applications.
Resources: My greatest resource was my boyfriend's sister, who suggested I apply, put in a good word for me, and guided me through the whole thing.
