How to sustain a houseplant for more than one year
How I did it: I still remember going to the garden centre to get this plant. I actually bought two, but one died; there was only so much room on the window sill. But I did make an educated decision; I put the one which said it liked shady places in my bedroom and the other one on my window sill. Unfortunately, the shady plant died, but the other one on the window sill has flourished! It's grown to at least twice the size and has flowered throughout the year. I may not have had this plant a whole year yet, but it's fully settled in and there's no chance of it dying so I guess that means i've completed this goal. I'll post another message when I do finally have the plant for a year.
Lessons & tips: PUT THE PLANT ON A WINDOWSILL! And if it's your first time buying a plant, only buy one, concentrate on that one, water reguarly (unless stated otherwise) and talk to it (honestly this works: The carbon dioxide released in your breath along with water vapour is absorbed and used by your plant for photosynthesis which helps the plant grow, it rewards you by releasing oxygen and other calming odours into your room)
Resources: A good, wholesome garden centre did the trick for me, ask a shop assistent (and make sure you grab one that looks like they know a lot about plants, not a student who's there to make a bit of cash) and tell them exactly what room the plant's gonna be in and they should be able to point you in the right direction for a suitable plant for you.
