How to get my wildlife rehabilitation permit
"I have a permit which allows me to transport and foster (in my home) wild animals which are being rehabilitated."
How I did it: I went through training at a local wildlife rehabilitation center; my permit was issued by Fish and Game, through the rehab center. The training taught various techniques for handling and caring for animals, as well as the legal issues and responsibilities involved. It only took a few hours to go through all of the training for the permit (although in order to do in-home foster care, additional training is required for each individual type of animal that will be fostered).
Lessons & tips: Contact your local wildlife rehabilitation center, if there is one. If not, it might be possible to receive training somewhere a bit away from home, and start up your own center.
