How I did it: I shaved it right after my high school graduation. I had a bunch of friends over and it was sort of a party. We put it in braids and cut them so I could donate them, then my friends went at what was left with scissors to get it shorter. My boyfriend then buzzed it down and then shaved it with my venus razor that I used on my legs. I used my garnier fructis conditioner instead of shaving cream and it worked really well. Right after the shave I went to the over-night party for graduates and enjoyed watching people do double takes. It was totally worth it, and it's also a lot of fun playing with different styles as it grows out.

Uhm, get a hat or a few, for protecting from the sun and for when you don’t want to be the center of attention.
Also, it took me longer than expected to actually accomplish the whole thing, probably because I had a lot of people over, but, yeah, give yourself time especially for the close shaving bit.
