"Less $$ spent in products that didn't leave my hair as nice as it feels now. The decapitated head in the picture represents all of those useless things."
How I did it: I basically went from regular washing, to wash only with conditioners to washing with water only.
Procedure: Give your scalp a vigorous massage before entering the shower, it's recommended that you don't use your nails, just the tip of your fingers.
Comb your hair thoroughly while the hot water runs (beware if you have sensitive skin). Why the hot water and the combing? To remove and distribute the grease at the top of your hair towards the ends more easily.
Finish showering your hair in cold (or cool) water. This step closes the cuticles, making it more difficult for your hair to absorb humidity (less frizz), also adding shine and making it more healthy-looking.
EDIT (NOV 6TH, 2011) I have to add that I get compliments about the way my hair smells. It's not yucky at all!
Lessons & tips: I also do this:
- Tea rinse (every other weekend). It consists of making tea (rosemary for darker hair, chamomile for lighter hair and so on... fruity teas are usually used for a nice smell), letting the water cool for about 30 mins, "wash" your hair and finish pouring water into it as a leave-in.
-Vinegar Rinse for build up. This helps with hair product and grease buildup, but it can also be drying. I dilute one tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar in one cup.
-Overnight treatment. Mix 4 parts conditioner (I use White Rain, it's cheap and works for this as much as any pricy products), 2 parts pure Aloe Vera gel and 1/5 parts Olive Oil (this can be replaced with honey, jojoba oil or an egg yolk... I've found Olive oil to be most rewarding for me) and just leave it overnight. It's amazing!
