How to crochet an afghan by Andrea409

"I couldn't believe what I had accomplished."

How I did it: I made a Grannie Ripple afghan for my MIL for Christmas last year. For several years I had wanted to learn to knit and crochet but never had the time. So I found a crochet-along on youtube and felt pretty comfortable learning that way. (The lady that filmed it is an excellent teacher.) I finished the afghan in a little under a month, because I needed to finish for Christmas. It turned out well, and people could not believe that was my first crochet project ever.

Lessons & tips: YouTube is your friend. There is an abundance of videos on there demonstrating the different stitches. Once you get the hang of those, look for tutorial videos for whichever item you are interested in making. The sky is the limit!

Andrea409 Progress, not perfection

Awesome! I think if I could do it, anyone could do it. I’m not really good at any other kinds of crafty things. But I took to this stuff fairly quickly. Check out that link and see what you think. Again, Beth (the woman in the videos) is a wonderful teacher, and she leads you through the entire process of making the afghan step-by-step. In all, it’s 16 videos. You can do it!
