How I did it: Originally, the goal had been to rent a bike for a short period (a week or a month) to commute to work to see if I would like it. But, I actually decided to go ahead and buy a new bike! I got it today! I went to a professional bike shop yesterday and told them generally what I was looking for. I explained that I was a novice and asked as many questions, silly or stupid, that I could think of to ask. The sales… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I often clean out my closet and donate my clothes to organizations like Goodwill. Once I even participated in a clothing swap with a Meetup group, which was hectic but fun. It took me about 2 hours to go through my closet this time and purge it of items that I either hadn't worn in a long time or knew that I would not wear again. I easily parted with clothes that were drab or did not ever fit right. I decided to do… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I have always wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride. I decided to go locally right here in Napa, CA. I saw a TV show called Half Off (www.halfoff.com) in which they offered tickets for half off. I purchased my ticket and when I was ready to book the flight I called them up. Balloons Above the Valley (www.balloonrides.com) provided me with a fantastic experience. The flight was absolutely wonderful. The… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I finally made it to the Gilroy Garlic Festival. They had several varities of garlic ice cream, including vanilla, chocolate, almond, and pistachio. My friend got garlic pistachio and I got vanilla garlic. I thought perhaps the garlic would shine more in vanilla! It was not overpowering but it had a nice mild aftertaste of garlic. Thumbs up! How I did it: I am not the world's biggest yogurt fan, but I don't despise it either. I often buy yogurt but then never eat it. I do, however, adore Greek nonfat yogurt. But I cheat and add, Equal and honey, and sometimes bananas. For some reason, I have been noticing the commercials lately about yogurts that taste like dessert, like blueberry pie yogurt and black velvet cake flavored-yogurt. I picked up 10 yogurts fo… Read how I did it…
How I did it: After moving yet again, I decided to completely update my bulletin board. The hardest decision was deciding whether to get a new bulletin board (I have had mine for about 15 years), get a combo whiteboard and bulletin board or just keep the one I have. This part took the most time with two trips to Staples-like stores to decide. In the end, I kept the one I have.I uploaded some of my favorite photos to kodakgallery.com a… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I finally moved into a place that has a small plot of land right outside of my front door. I have never had a place to plant flowers or trees in the earth. I picked up about 30 small colorful flowers from Walmart and planted them them in about an hour. The dirt was very hard and rocky, but hopefully they will survive and thrive! Read how I did it…
How I did it: I had an event to attend in SF, which was one block from the last Caltrain station. I decided on the day of the event to take the train instead of driving and dealing with traffic and parking in SF. It was fun and I felt happy to have finally taken the train. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I just kept a log of books as I read them. I have been journaling the books I read for a few years now. I only read one book at a time, but I do like to read. I surpassed my goal this year because I finished 43 books this year! 43 books on 43 Things! :-)Some of my favorites for 2009 were:The Sookie Stackhouse seriesComplicationsSwayWizard's First RuleNudge Read how I did it…
How I did it: I got hooked on WOW a few years ago after being introduced to it by a friend. I have a few toons on two servers but mainly stuck with one character. As with many things in WOW, it just takes time and patience. I took several breaks along the way (from a few months to 10 months at one point),but eventually, I made it to level 70. Actually, I am level 76 now. I still like WOW but don't play as much as I used to. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I joined Bookcrossing.com a few years ago. I really like their philosophy and got some labels, which are not too expensive. I try to buy less books in general and borrow more from the library. When I do buy a book, I usually bookcross it and distribute it in the wild for someone to find and enjoy or I give it to a particular friend if I think they would like it. I will also donate old books to libraries and graduat… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I researched and bought my first digital camera about 1 to 1.5 years ago (can't remember exactly). I took two classes at REI to encourage myself to take more photos and to learn more about composition. I am better at taking nice shots while traveling and feel more confident now. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I was honored to be invited to a friend's wedding in Japan and made plans to go. I hadn't seen this friend and her family in over 14 years and I also had a high school friend that I hadn't seen in 18 years! I got to see all of them, which was absolutely the best part of my trip. I was in Osaka, Kyoto, Chiba, and Tokyo for 10 days total in May 2009. I stayed with my friends for 7 of the 10 days and stayed in one hot… Read how I did it…
