I lasted 35 days without alcohol, during which I never craved it, then after a funeral last Friday I really felt like a drink. So I drank 3 glasses of wine and 2 bourbon and cokes… since then I’ve had a couple of glasses of wine. Once this bottle is finished, I am not buying any more. I will try and keep drinking to one weekend a month or so… I think that’s fair.

... and going strong! There is now no alcohol in the house (other than cooking sherry) and I haven’t been tempted to buy any either. I survived my first whole weekend without alcohol, and I am amazed at how much I accomplished! Normally I would start drinking around lunchtime, sitting on the couch watching movies, but nope! I did so many things I’d been putting off (mostly hardcore housework), and I’m really proud of myself. Now to keep the ball rolling :)
I am making 2011 an alcohol-free year (or at least as much of it as possible). The final days of 2010, I drank alcohol purely because I was on holidays and I could. And it made me feel terrible, lethargic and cost a bundle! I last drank on NYE (enough to give me alcohol poisoning) so I’m only 6 days in so far. But I’ll be strong.
I have gotten into a bad routine of having a few glasses of wine every evening when I come home from work. And on weekends, I can start drinking as early as 10am. As a result, I’ve put on weight and have wasted so much money!
So from now on, I will not drink on Sun – Thurs, and I can only drink on Friday and Saturday evenings IF I have already burnt off those calories.
I haven’t had a drink in two days, and my headaches have stopped… so the hard part is over.
