managed to catch the last showing of all last showings in this obscure little theatre.
(don’t you just love it when that happens?)

Really fell off track for this goal because we were away and then Hubs was sick for 2 weeks.
We finally got around to watching something at home that was out this summer… so it’s kinda new.
Cadillac Records
Not bad! The acting was strong. The story certainly compelling. But some fact checking exposed Hollowood’s blatantly screwing around with details to make the story more dramatic.
So we did see Bright Star a week back.
I had hoped for more (The Piano being one of my all time favorites).
It wasn’t bad, but it was irritating at times. I wanted to be romantically moved, but the characters repeatedly made decisions I would not have. Yes, it was a different time but theirs was more of an obsessive love, than a healthy one to be sure.
And in 180˚ this past Friday
Zombieland was great! Exactly what it’s supposed to be. More “ewwww” than gorey, in my opinion. I’m no fan of horror, especially slasher flicks. This had the right balance of gross & humor. The camera didn’t linger too long on zombie dining… there was a lot of it, certainly, and cursing too (who wouldn’t if chased by zombies) but so much silliness that nothing was particularly disturbing. Lots of laughs but no nightmares here!
We’ve been on a roll with this already… for the last few months. Became a happy habit partly out of establishing a date night (usually fridays) with the Hubs and also a bit of an escape during my Grandfather’s decline.
We are currently trying to decide between Coco Before Chanel & Bright Star… Star seems to be winning even tho we’ll have to catch a later showing. CBC is getting pretty hohum reviews.
Have seen… (off the top of my head)
Youssou N’Dour: I Bring What I Love – Beautiful, moving!
Extract – funny, not as below-the-belt as the trailer seemed
District 9 – personally didn’t like, Hubs did, seemed scattered
Cold Souls – excellent!!
Ponyo – great kid movie from Japanese master
Public Enemies – huge letdown: great acting but cinematography horrid
UP – who didn’t like this??
