Love like my dog loves - fully, completely,and with wreckless abandon

Just how many times can one person throw a stick? This is the magic question my sweet, over-indulged, ox-of-a-dog poses each time we visit any body of water. His eyes twinkle, his muscles twitch, and his ears flop to an’ fro as he anticipates each touchdown toss into the water.

He runs with all his might, he swims as quickly as his four blurs for legs allow as he reaches his bounty. He then plucks the mini elm tree from the water, and races back to shore to do it all again (and again, and again.)

After one hundred throws, I stand on the bank thoroughly exhausted from his expended efforts. I turn for the truck and glance over my shoulder to see one final plea in his eyes, begging for just one more throw.

Now who can turn down that?

My mountain o’ mutt spent the last several days at Critter Camp while my hubby and I spent just a many days aboard a lovely liveaboard dive vessel. I anticipated getting pounced on, trampled, and licked until my cheek was raw, but not the case. He just wanted to go home.
Now he’s home and just so dang happy to have his rubber ball to chase and chew. Since our arrival he’s slept and slept on his big soft, orange pillow in the middle of the living room and wallowed in the air conditioned house all day. Life is so much kinder with a simple minded mutt at your side.

So glad to be home.

After several 14 hour shifts…I’m whooped. Once I enter that front door, the only thing I’m truly interested in is my goose down comforter and flannel PJs. In a flash I tear off my work clothes, throw on my jammies, play the obligatory round of fetch (more like throw and chase), and snuggle into bed as my loyal canine compadre curls up on his doggie bed as close as he can possibly get without actually stealing the covers.

Overtaken by peaceful slumber, I sense I’m being watched. I slowly open my eyes and find myself nose to nose with a creature so crazy about me he can’t wait for me to finish my night’s sleep. The moment my eyes open, his tail thrashes to and fro to the point he wags his entire body in anticipation of a simple game of tug. Sure is tough to beat.
