When I envision the act of meditating, I picture one sitting cross-legged on the floor, eyes closed, and hands formed into the okay symbol resting on the knees all the while chanting “OM.” As I picture it I see my meditation style branching off in another direction.
For now, after I write in my journal or after I’ve read a particular scripture, I close my eyes and contemplate the message I just read or wrote about and how it applies to my life. As a new student to meditation, I simply clear my mind and concentrate on breathing long, purposeful breaths. When an arbitrary thought enters my mind (i.e. I wonder if the clothes are dry?) I hit my wayward thought delete button and refocus.
So far, this practice adds incredible benefit to my spiritual, physical, and emotional health. I’ll do this for one month and mark it as complete.
