Confession time. Oops. As a Catholic, I ought to say, “Reconciliation time”...more on that later…but since no priest is readily available, I suppose it’s really “confession” sans absolution. Good for the soul in a Spiritual Go To The Gym sort of manner, but useless in terms of true forgiveness. On the other hand, it might just be about the process (Hey Pete, how often have we heard that??).
First off…my running is suffering. Why, one asks? Simple. A bad back (which is well on its way to recovery, no thanks to the freaking recliner sofas I decided to load up on my own) and the recovery period has left me rather…lazy. A choice, yes. Oddly enough, an easy choice. Sort of like crawling into the sleeping bad sans tent, since the tent is too damn difficult to put up and it’ll be struck in the morning anyhow. Warmest night I’ve spent in the field at 35 degrees, by the way. Back to the point. I’m at a whopping 6 miles per week, which basically sucks. I have lowered my ideal from 26.2 to 13.1 (which I’ve done thrice, but that’s not the issue) to a 10K under an hour. Add to that, I’m allowing the environment to overcome me – not a good thing to someone conditioned to ignoring the environment, to a certain extent. Add to that a lower back, which has its days (daze?), and I can dream up any excuse not to run.
Folks, I need help. Lots of it. Or a good ass kicking, it has been some time since my last really good ass kicking…tough to say, but I’d have to place it sometime in the late 90s.
First, my short term goal is to hit 3 miles, three times per week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Pete will recognize the “creativity” in my choices (about as creative as “Dave Matthews Band”). I missed today, thankfully, but it was a Good Back Day, so that’s a balance. So, got to go to the gym Wednesday and Friday AT LEAST and hit the TM. That way I run and the cadets see me. Sehr wichtig.
Second, I need to build weight training into the other days somehow. News at 11.
Lastly, the mileage should increase.
Simple plan. Almost as simple as the Spartans at Thermopylae: Hold the pass. Die in place. Too easy, right?
Actually, I do need to run thrice weekly. Once I have that established, the mileage will build. Help me out here….is less than three miles OK for now? I mean, as long as I’m consistant??
