Several months ago I opened up a savings account with a decent interest rate. Not a great interest rate. But, not bad. Simultaneously, I had my HR department start appropriating a small amount ($75) from each paycheck to said account.
There has been only one time I’ve had to dip into the savings account. It was a very little amount that I had to transfer over to my checking account and it was worth it.
I plan on using this money to float my Fall Tuition between when I have to pay for my classes and when I get my scholarship money in. Then, I should have it back up to its current balance, if not more.
VERY happy with the way this makes me feel. It’s a very “adult” type of manuever.

I paid off my only loan. I’m left now with just a credit card balance and one last medical bill.
I’ve also gotten a better paying job. So, with any luck, I’ll have it all paid off and will be saving money just that much sooner!

I’m now square with my car insurance payments. I’ve been paying one month behind every month. Now, Allstate and I are even. When summer rolls around my (only) accident will fall off of my record and I’ll be dropping some of the coverage on it, as I’ll be riding my motorcycle daily. This’ll hopefully save a nice chunk of change every month.

Currently, I make enough money to get by each month without going in the red. That includes paying off some (relatively) small debts. I would like to get to the point where my debts are paid off and I can save the money I’m currently putting toward them.
I have a checking & savings accounts through my old credit union. While my account still exists, I creating a more-frequently used checking account through a local bank. Relocating made it unreasonable to access my old credit union.
My new bank has some minimum requirements that I cannot meet at this point. Their “super saver” account is very tempting because of its high interest rates, but I definitely cannot create one with thier standards.
So, I’m resorting to a “shoebox under the bed” approach for now. Each paycheck I’m going to pull a small ammount ($10-20) and stash it away ‘til I can actually create a savings account.
Also, I’m picking up a second job for the next couple of months in hopes of ditching my debt.
