so proud

The Eye of Rah [Thurs] 3 years ago

a customer came in to my job at the gas station flaunting his new tattoo. but it was his old one i found myself most interested in.
i questioned him, “isn’t that the Eye of Rah”
he says well actually it has many different names.
so….that was my thing i learned, now i chose to explore the topic further.

fascinating!
another name is the Eye of Rah.
and when drawn correctly, the symbol has 6 parts to represent the six senses; touch, taste, hearing, sight, smell, and Thought.

the 6 different pieces were also used as standards of measurement; being portions of both heqats and ros.
(common measurement standards then, not so much now)
there are more details to learn, but i want to know if there’s another name for it. or why it has so many names.

looks like it’s just either Horus/Horace or Rah/Ra-excuse me, there is no “h”, i think

people seem to like to attribute the orginal inspiration for said eye on a solar eclipse. how it looks like a large, black pupil with different beams jetting out. that’s a bit of a stretch for me, since it seems the Egyptians had something rather more specific in mind and very exact.
ok! fun to learn.

Two new words (Arabic) [Sun] 3 years ago

i came across these as part of my friend’s photo captions on one of my blog sites.
i got curious.

-mehndi:is basically the application of henna. the context in which i came across it, the girls were preparing for a wedding. so getting her mehndi is kinda like getting a mani/pedi.
culturally speaking.

-mashallah: a contraction of ma’aha Allah “What wonders Allah has willed.”
i also found it translated as “May God preserve you from the Evil Eye”
it seems difficult to track down an exact translation.
the phrase is used frequently, though.
and combining that w/ context….
i’d gather it’s similar (but stronger) than a kudos.
definitely a positive phrase, encouraging, supportive

Proper Cuticle Care 3 years ago

a mani-pedi is decadent, indulgent.
wouldn’t i loOove to be able to afford that treat!
however….
while i’m waiting to be just THAT wealthy, i wanted to make sure my nailbeds didn’t suffer.

I did a little research and found out that hangnails are merely your body’s way of letting you know that you need to moisturize more frequently.
well, i tend to overwash my hands so i already keep a pump bottle of Lubriderm (scent-free for sensitive skin) behind the pump soap to prevent dry hands. however, now i must remember to particularly focus on rubbing the lotion on my cuticle area to prevent nasty hangover.

i’m glad i’ve learned this!
it’s gonna save me like a million dollars at the beauty salon.
(over time. with interest….possibly still “a million” was an exageration….)

note to self: remember, when pushing back the cuticle with the stick thingy, use circular motions. and probablly just do this right after a bath so the cuticle is more malleable.

[not my hands. i don’t have long nails. or french tips]
