but I’ve never forgotten the feeling of riding a bike, the feeling of freedom that it gave me. I rode all over my neighborhood as a kid and into downtown. I got very far afield from my home on the bike of my youth. Even got a ticket once for “trickriding” (I was riding no hands in a white working class neighborhood with friends and a cop stopped us and gave us citations). When I got home, my mommma said “thats cause you was where you didn’t belong”. But I never soured on riding my bike. I can’t remember when I stopped having a bike. Biking was over by the time I reached highschool and I don’t remember why. And I have not owned or ridden a bike since. Now I have three little ones and they each have a bike, and I keep thinking “I’m going to get a bike and ride with them”.
