astral projection

i heard abt astral project abt 2 years ago.
by this people says one can depart from his or her body.
it is o.b.e. out of body experience.
but i m confused is it true?
can anyone really do this thing?
can i depart my spirit from my body even when i m alive?
if this is possible i need some help.
