I haven’t posted any updates on this goal in quite some time. The good news is that I can now do my weight training video all the way through with no problem. I’ve been doing it consistently three times a week for about 6 weeks now. (The root of my problem, really, has been consistency all along.) To be perfectly honest, my arms still look about the same. I’ll never have big arms (because I’m not a guy! lol) but I’m still hoping for a little more definition. Maybe when a whittle down a little more of my “insulation” more progress will be evident.

I netflixed a new exercise video a couple of weeks ago and have had it lying around in a conspicuous position in the living room where it’s main accomplishment thus far has been to make me feel guilty. Unlike the various aerobic routines I’ve flailed around to, this one is purely a weight training video. I did the warm-up and the first set of leg exercises last night and today I’ve hobbled around like someone who’s just undergone major surgery. The first set of exercises was 56 lunges. And you’re supposed to lunge while carrying extra weights. I turned it off when I discovered that the next segment was a set of 88 squats. :/ I am not disheartened in the least, however. I’ve decided to take a Kaizen approach to it. Tomorrow I’ll do the warm-up, the lunges, and the squats and then turn it off and go soak my aching muscles. Two days after that I’ll add the next exercise in the routine and so on and so forth until I’m able to do the whole video without going into convulsions.
I have to admit that I’m inspired by the physiques of those demonstrating the exercises. One of the women is 57 years old and she looks amazing. There is hope for me yet. : P
I’ve been working out pretty consistently with my measly little 5lb weights here recently. There isn’t any visible difference in my arms yet, although I certainly feel stronger. I bought a set of 8lb weights the other day and they’re currently making rather permanent-looking indentations in my living room carpet. I’m hoping to be able to put them to better use soon. : )
to having someone take a picture of my arm today. Please ignore the goofy face I’m making (why do I always have that deer-in-the-headlights look lately?) and concentrate on the mush level. Needs some improvement, eh? You’d think lugging around a 25 lb toddler would give me a bit more definition, but no. : ) This is what I have to work with, folks.
nothing on this goal yet. I’m so ashamed! I thought that being here in Vegas I would have ample opportunities to trot over to the fitness center and work on my flimsy biceps. We’ve been here two-and-a-half weeks and still I’ve done zilch. Zippo. Nil. I think I’m going to have to shelve this one until we get back home in early August.
So I’m not aiming for that. [pointing upwards] Because, let’s just face it…that woman is scary. Now, even if I wanted to look like that (which I don’t) it would never happen. I have more of a long, lean build; more like the body of a dancer. I personally think it’s a cruel twist of fate since I don’t have a coordinated bone in my body. But really, don’t pity me for my clumsiness. I’ve accepted it. I’ve even learned how to color-coordinate my outfits with the bumps and bruises I receive from my run-ins with chairs and doorknobs. : )
I’m about to embark on a five week self-prescribed training program to get my arms in shape just in time to hide them under long, fall clothing. lol. Honestly, I’m really just hoping for a little more definition and a little less “jiggliness”. When I’m older, I don’t want anyone thinking I could be capable of flight.
Hmmm…perhaps I should post a before and after picture so I can see if I’ve made any progress at all in the end. It would be very disturbing to go through all that effort and see no change whatsoever.
