A professional editor came and talked to our writing class on Tuesday. Her two hours was full of interesting information about the publishing and editing process here in New Zealand and the books that she had worked on. And then she told us how much money authors here make from their first novel: around $5000.
Hmmm… maybe this goal needs to be changed to make 1/5th of my living as a writer. Even that target seems a long way off.

To date, writing’s been something I’ve done while doing something else (most often a web-related something else). I’ve made a few cheques off it, but they’ve usually been in under-100-dollar amounts.
I love writing, and it’d be great to be able to make a living from my love. Completing this goal’s still a long way off, but it’s something to work towards.
