Ok, so the coming week (sigh) 2 years ago

I don’t feel rested enough. One weekend it’s arguing with my kids, and the other weekend it’s arguing with my partner. When do I get to rest, I ask?
So, I’m trying a pipeline approach this week. I’m finishing all the cutting now, and I will be sewing all week. And I need a drawing day, that will be Monday. Tomorrow will be shopping, phonecalls, any cutting that I don’t finish today.
I finished the sweater. It’s way too big. I’ve started on some socks. So far it seems the right size.
Have a nice week, everybody!

New week, then. 3 years ago

Last week my main progress was on cutting. Also some phonecalls. I’m getting a bit tired of copying the list. I will just focus on the coming week.
Cutting:
I finished everything I meant to cut from the blue fabric, and was left with a lot of spare fabric. I cut another skirt and there’s at least one more there. I will finish it up. Then I will have 6 skirts to sew. I will cut the white fabric up to the same 6 skirts. Same with the iron-on lining.
Sewing:
Then I will have everything ready to sew those six skirts. I will try a pipeline approach, I hope it will not make a complete mess. Of course I will not finish it in one week, but I wonder how much I will do.
Knitting:
I’m almost done with the boyfriend’s sweater, luckily another project for him is going to be done and we’ve not parted yet. Next I want to try to knit my first pair of socks, for myself this time, and there are so many projects I want to do!
Phone Calls:
I still haven’t phoned that eye clinic. Maybe I should realise I never will?..
Modeling:
Sometime I should really make progress on the full-scale test things. Will this be the week?.. Well, probably not.

Another conclusion from last week: 3 years ago

The main problem is cleaning. If what I had to do last Sunday was sewing or cutting or drawing, I’d have managed. But it was cleaning, so I did nothing. I could have just done something else that was productive… so, next time, when faced with that feeling, I will take a day or a half-day and rest, and then, if I still can’t handle cleaning, I will sew.
This week’s list is oh, very similar to last week’s. Only this time the house is clean, so.
My home is my buisiness, it’s part of my work to keep it clean. Still, I’m not good at it, and I must be better at keeping priorities.

Conclusion of this horrible week. 3 years ago

Suppose you have a difficult week. You’re very tired, but somehow you manage it, then the next week starts. And suppose on Sunday (most of you would want to read: Monday) your body and your head tell you that you should take a day off.
Do it – and you will have “lost” one day to rest, and a much-needed rest.
Don’t – and you will have lost a whole week to procrastination and avoidance and still not have rested.
I’ve got 45 minutes more of rest. Bye!

A pretty good week. 3 years ago

I’ve had two long days, and worked on a minimum-switch plan, and I did a lot of work. Current list – the items with ”@” are the ones I hope to accomplish this week (apparently, asterixes and tildas are not good):

Sewing:

@ Finish a size 4.
@ Another size 4.
@ My daughter’s skirt lining and shirt neckline.
Replace a zipper on my trousers.

Drawing:

@ This week’s homework.
@ Finish the full size test trousers (for my lessons).
fix the full size test skirt (for my lessons).
The trousers I want to sew.
The tops I want to sew.

Cutting: (no change from last week)

Blue fabric – size 6 main part X 4, size 6 belt X 2, size 10 main part X 4, size 10 belt X 2.
White fabric – size 6 lining X 4, size 6 pockets X 4, size 10 lining X 4, size 10 pockets X 4.
Iron-on lining: size 6 belt X 2, size 10 belt X 2.
(Red fabric next, won’t make it this week anyway).

Phone calls:

@ Eye clinic.
@ Gynecologist (I know, too much information, but I’m going to refer to this list and I need this to be here, otherwise I will forget).
@ Bills.
@ Dr appointment for my daughter.

Shopping:

Closet for my fabrics and finished works.
@ Lining fabric.
Fabric for trousers.
Fabric for tops.
@ T-shirts to customise.

Knitting:

@ Two sizes of front of sweater.
Two sleves.
Join it all together.
Start a new one, this time for meee…

Writing:

I’m kind of quitting nanowrimo. I found out that my story is nowhere near a novel. I’m at less than 14,000 words and I’m almost done. Still, it’s the longest thing I’ve ever written and I’m very proud of it. I plan to stick to the finish-on-November plan, but without the word count thing. This week my goal is to get to the end of it. Next week I will polish. I’ll try again next year, with a better understanding of what writing a novel is!

I plan to have one full drawing day, three full sewing days, and one day for shopping.

Last week was pretty ok... 3 years ago

once I found the by-action-type approach.

Sewing:Finish size 2.Do one size 4. (not quite finished.)
My daughter’s skirt that needs lining, and shirt that needs an overloc around the neckline.
The excersize skirt that needs fixing (if I manage to finish the pattern).
(Tuesday and Wednesday?)

Drawing:This week’s homework (for Thursday).Deferred items (I’m going to set up a drawing day and make as much as I can).
Trousers.
Tops.
(Monday?)

Cutting:
Blue fabric – size 6 main part X 4, size 6 belt X 2, size 10 main part X 4, size 10 belt X 2.
White fabric – size 6 lining X 4, size 6 pockets X 4, size 10 lining X 4, size 10 pockets X 4.
Iron-on lining: size 6 belt X 2, size 10 belt X 2.
(Red fabric next, won’t make it this week anyway).
(Thursday, or not at all?)

Phone calls:
Eye clinic.
Lessons for my daughter (what lessons? – she should make up her mind).Bills.
(Sunday?)

Shopping:
Closet for my fabrics and finished works.
Lining fabric.
Fabric for trousers.
Fabric for tops.
T-shirts to customise.
(Thursday, or not at all?)

Knitting:Finish back of sweater.
Front.
Sleeves.
Put together.

Writing:
I’m supposed to make it to 16,667 words by the end of next Saturday. Not that I will…

Not that I’m going to do all that this week; I’m going to advance on each list and update it from week to week, crossing off items from the beginnig, and adding items tothe end.

I've been feeling paralised and incapable. 3 years ago

I’ve been PMSing harder than usual, and fighting with my daughter, and feeling devoid of energy. Then I’ve had an idea, based on what Emily wrote (thanks, by the way!) about grouping items according to action type rather than project. I realised that when I feel like that, what scares me most is switching, starting something new. Then what I should do is reduce the number of switches. It really gave me a kick.
So far I’ve made a list of cutting missions, and that also grouped according to fabric type, so I don’t have to switch between fabrics. A cutting session is only with one fabric type, and I cut everything I need out of that fabric. Then I group the outcomes according to project, to make sure that I work efficiently and don’t misplace parts and remember which is which. I’ve also made a phone call list and I’ve made four just now! And if I don’t make my one skirt goal this week, it will be because I’ve cut out three skirts before starting to sew. Next week I will have that in mind when making my list.

New week 3 years ago

Last week was ok, I finished many of the things I’d planned, but not all; and that with my virus from the week before reoccurring. I only did one skirt. The smallest size, with no pockets, but I’m trying to start on the easier items to gain a sense of progress. One skirt a week is not nearly enough. At that rate I will hold my first sale on 2018. Sigh.
I will only plan one skirt this week, so I won’t disappoint myself. Maybe I’ll surprise myself and do more.

Work:
One skirt.

Homework:
This lesson’s, and maybe a deferred item?

Housekeeping missions:
Kitchen – spray against bugs.
Living room – window over sofa.
Bathroom – area around sink.
Kid’s room – 27 items on closet, 27 items of winter clothing.
My room – sink, mirror and shelf over sink.

Dr’s appointments:
The most urgent is a dentist appointment for my daughter. Her new teeth are coming out, and the old ones haven’t fallen yet. It looks like the new ones are not in the right place, a bit too deep, and maybe that’s the reason the old ones are not coming away. Next in line is my family doctor.

Paperwork:
Five items.

Car:
Have it washed!!

Yarn. 3 years ago

My motivation came back the minute the Singer started Singing. I love this work.
But then I was afraid that I will be sucked into it and not do the rest, so I followed my list. Gave up mid-drawer. What a horrid mess.
Brought back a memory: when I was a kid, there was a television show on israely TV in Arabic (surprising to think of it now: some twenty-five years ago, Israel main-stream not only recognised that Israely Arabs do exist, but also that they start out as children, and thet Arab children are as likely is Jewish children to want to watch educational TV. Not only that, but it was on regular educational TV hours, with Hebrew translation, so that children like me would actually watch. What’s happened? – but that’s way, way off topic). Once they explained how to tie a thick thread and a thin one. They had a song about it, and I remembered it because there was a dance where a fat man and a thin man were dancing together… really cute. I suddenly remembered that and I thought: why all the dancing and the bother? They should have just put it in my drawer for a few seconds and it would be tied together inseperatably. Thick wool and thin sewing thread, no problem.
So, more to the point, not much progress on the skirt. Not hoping to finish it today anymore, but who knows.
Tired, tired, tired.
