I was an english major in college, I read texts over a century old, and many of the classics of the past three hundred years. I don’t know how I missed ever actually reading the Bible, but somehow I did.
It’s not really a matter of Faith for me, because I know the faith part and I accept that, but it is the most influential book in the world, and I haven’t read it. I don’t even own a Bible. Isn’t that enough to send me to hell? It just seems ill-educated.
At the same time the Bible seems intimidating in a way many other books aren’t. It’s fact, fiction, allegory and metaphor all wrapped up together. There are schools devoted to it’s study and debates ranging over not just it’s understanding but it’s physical reading. I don’t know but that seems like a lot to chew on.
