Secured credit cards 17 months ago

I have 2 secured credit cards. I initially applied for one, but in some sort of snafu ended up with 2. Unfortunately it is reported to the bureau as a secured card vs. a credit card. Which was upsetting and I asked them this and they told me it would say credit card, not secured . . . but after some time they will re-evaluate my account and possibly change it to a full on credit card. In any case, I have one w/ a 300 dollar limit and another 2/ a 500 dollar limit. The 500 dollar limit is a partially secured card (annual fee – 50, funded – 99). The 300 dollar fully secured card has a 35 dollar annual fee.

Anyway, it helps. I keep it paid off so that I don’t have to pay any fees and interest.

Keep it up out there. WE can pull this off together!

and the number is . . . 18 months ago

653! Opened a secured credit card, and somehow also managed to open up another card. Thought I was declined and this was the alternative one (secured), but I guess not. I don’t know. Either way, I don’t want to close it now, because that is not really worthwhile. The secured can change to a regular one over time (6 months) depending on how I am handling my credit. So I have put one bill on it for 35 bucks a month, and I don’t really intend to use it for much more. Maybe a car rental here and there.

So again, looking good. Plus, some things are falling off of my report over the course of the year, so I am expecting small increases over time.

Update 20 months ago

So I finished paying off the old CitiBank Plus checking account. I had to wait 30 days for them to send me a letter and for them to report it to the credit bureau. So I called to get the letter sent, and it arrived yesterday. Now they are saying they will report it to the 3 credit agencies, but it will probably be at the end of the month.

So yet again I feel like they are jerking my chain and letting this detrimental stuff sit on my account as a negative when it really is resolved. Man this is such a scam. It is perfect for their business, but so awfully wrong for the everyday person.

Tomorrow is officially one month since payment 20 months ago

I will be calling tomorrow to have them send my letter and to remind them to update the credit agencies.

Let’s see if this will help increase my FICO score. I hope so.

Citibank Checking Plus account . . . 21 months ago

Paid In Full. Yep, just like Eric B & Rakim . . .they are P.I.F.

: D (That is for the hip-hop heads out there.)

The check finally came in and now I will call them and ask them to mail me a letter saying it is paid and to update the credit agency.

One down and a few more to go, but every step forward is a step in the right direction.

Cheers! You can do it!

Improvement....INDEED! 22 months ago

So my credit score is steadily going up . . . 639. Oh and get this, I applied for a credit card . . . and was approved. So that is great considering that this time last year, I could not have done that. I paid off my Sears card last month in full and now I have a balance on the Macy’s card less than $150 bucks and I will probably pay 100 if not the whole thing this month before the due date. So all in all, being more responsible and not getting in too far over my head. I have a CD that is ending soon, I am going to close it out since the interest is non-existent. That is like 2K coming my way, and as much as I would love to take a trip, or do some other stuff with it, I want to pay off one old outstanding bill, and see if I can negotiate on another. That would leave me with one loan that is beyond delinquent and the loan I took on my 401k eons ago. I must pay that off this year or the time limitations will have expired and it will be sent to the IRS as income and I will have to pay the tax on the money taken out. So . . . I have some things to take care of, but I feel like I am in a good place.

It takes time, determination . . . and really discipline, but it is possible and is well worth it once you get the lesson.

Keep up the great work out there . . .

My credit score is 23 months ago

steadily going up. It is taking its time, but it is going up. I think I am at 636 now? Is that right? Well, back to my original statement . . . it is going up. Cheers!

Update 1 year ago

My FICO score is on the rise. I am paying on bills on time, not making credit inquiries (applying for new cards) and keeping balances at zero. So hopefully 2008 will see a score in the 700’s.

633 and rising 2 years ago

so as of oct 9, my score is up to 633. at 660 i will be able to hit a smaller interest rate but i am trying to get to the 720 mark. anything above that is gravy too. i am just plugging away. i still have the same bills, but i have not been late w/ any payments, most are on auto withdraw plans, and i have not applied for any new credit, so that helps too. glad to see the hard work is paying off. it is going to take some time, but it is coming. i can see the promise on the horizon.

oh boy . .. . 2 years ago

got some mail from home, and it seems that an old loan that i have not paid on in eons is going to sue me. i think that is what all of the paperwork is saying. all of this legal ease, they have tried to serve me, but that is pretty difficult since i no longer live in that state and i am looking at paperwork that is saying that back in april they put a notice on my door or mailed something when this is the first i have seen anything that looks like this. i have received regular notices saying i owe them, but nothing looking this formal. was completely shook by this and ended up not getting many z’s, but i guess i need to get some legal council of my own. i don’t need this. i need to apply for an apartment, i need to have good credit for my job . . . . i just can’t seem to see my way out of all of this.

help!
