Update . . .
so after having to take 3 classes this semester, long story, don’t feel like getting into it. I ended up dropping one. So, now my financial aid is going to be revoked for this semester and last semester because I am falling below 6 credits for the semester and I will have to pay the tuition reimbursement $$ I got from my job back for the course I dropped, and hopefully not for the other course that I have left. (I need at least a C, but I am running out of steam and am behind by 3 assignments as I type.) But I am proud of myself for at least dropping the class and getting a W vs. an F. The old me would have been all upset and fallen into a depressive state and would have done nothing, and it would have just continued to go down from there. The new me, just does what has to be done and deals w/ the repercussions later. Hey, some times you have to know when to hold em and when to fold em. Thanks Kenny, it works in cards, but life too!
Cheers!

I am in . . .

the boyfriend gave me the money to pay for the application fee . . $50. so i did that yesterday and got the reply that I got it today. now I am waiting to find out how much money I am going to get, if anything. So at least that is done. Feeling pretty good about it too! they took 52 out of the 60 credits that I have . . . so that is really phenomenal. So I think that in 3 years or so I should be able to knock this out the box.

totally screwed up yesterday and missed the open house. didn’t get out of the house until later and then proceeded to go to the wrong metro stop. i ended up having to pay again to get back into the system to realize that where I should have gone, would have taken me more than 45 minutes (the time left before the open house was done) to get there.
so i went back home. pissed, annoyed, and frustrated with myself. the next open house is too far away. i contacted the undergrad admissions person I have been working with to see if she has any pity on me and can arrange for the app fee to be waived. that was the whole point of me attending the open house. fifty bucks waived. i would just put the app in and pay for it, but i don’t have it.
life sucks, but i am hopeful and know that God can make a way out of no way.

No go today...

was supposed to leave at 8a, did not leave until 10a …then proceeded to go to the wrong location. It was 11:15a. It would have taken more than 45 minutes to get there before it ended at 12p (open house) so instead it is a plan deferred.
I was going to just apply on line and pay the 50 bucks, but if I do that, it will leave me with 9 bucks until I get paid at the end of the month.

So I am going to the open house to register tomorrow. I am excited. I need to complete the Financial Aid process. Depending on how long it takes this will determine whether I take classes this summer or in the fall.
The online “411 course” was great. I feel confident that I can do this. It is certainly going to take discipline to read, read, read all of my work and participate in the conferences, etc, but I know I can do it.
I also had a tentative credit evaluation, and of the 60 credits I have accumulated, it looks like 52 of them would transfer over. I need to speak to my Enrollment Specialist to get a full debriefing of the .pdf she sent me.
Very exciting. Very exciting indeed.
Keep up the good work out there!

UMUC’s online program. So far I am quite impressed. They have alumni, current students, faculty, deans . .. folks from all walks of the university involved in this trial run. The idea is that people that are interested can take this 1 week ‘course’ that will help you to get a feel for what taking an online class is. We will discuss topics that are important to prospective students and hopefully in the end will be able to make a concrete decision and apply/register/apply for financial aid.
I am looking forward to it. I am looking at the Human Resources Management major since I worked in staffing for 8 years, I am hoping that I will be able to get a reasonable amount of credits for life credits. I want to get started for this summer’s semester that begins in May. There is an open house in MD and I am going to attend so that I don’t have to pay an application fee. ($50). I need all of my money. You know what I’m saying!
So making moves, and feeling good about it!

So talking to my friend yesterday she said her aunt went back to school like 20 years after getting her associate degree online at this place called Bluefield College. So I looked them up and then began to really consider this distance learning. I see that Skidmore has a Without Walls program, so I am going to request some additional info and hopefully I will be on my way to getting this piece of paper by the summer.

and met a woman who is in the Liberal Arts program at Georgetown University. They basically cater to adults returning to academia and you finish w/ a full fledged degree. So, I got the application, I just need to get the $$ for the app fee (35) and then the transcripts sent and go from there. I don’t think that many of my credits will transfer since I took the courses over 10 years ago. But I am going to try to be positive and see what happens.

so i heard back from GMU, they rejected me! it caught me sooo off guard. i never expected to be denied as a transfer student. granted my transcripts show a very checkered past, i don’t know what i am going to do now. i have soo many credits for me to go to a community college, they probably are going to make me start all over because they will only accept up to a certain amount. like you can’t take the majority of your courses at joe blow college and be almost a senior and then transfer to princeton or brown. so it is the same thing here. totally annoyed and i have been ignoring it, but eventually i will have to address it.
thought i would share.
