The hydrangeas are blooming now in rainy season. Sometimes, when I’m driving or riding in the train, I can look across a field and see them, colorful against the backdrop of a bamboo wood. Yesterday, they were draped over a garden fence as we walked down a narrow alley. They’re like moments of pastel watercolor, bits of beauty amidst every day sights…

But Sophie has been bringing home violets every day that she finds on her walk home from school. I love them. They smell so fresh and light but very strong and they remind me of home…
